The Outlander cast recently gathered to celebrate the wedding of Richard Rankin and Sammie Russell, as reported by the Daily Record. The lavish ceremony was held in South Queensferry, with Scottish actor Richard, who is known for his role as Roger MacKenzie, Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) son-in-law in the popular Starz series, inviting many of his co-stars to the grand event at Hopetoun House.

Hopetoun House has been a notable location in Outlander seasons one through three, serving as the setting for scenes set in Paris, the Duke of Sandringham’s residence, and Helwater. Among those in attendance at the couple’s wedding were Balfe and Heughan, along with Lauren Lyle (Marsali MacKimmie Fraser), John Bell (Young Ian), Joey Phillips (Denzell Hunter), Izzy Meikle-Small (Rachel Hunter), Caitlin O’Ryan (Lizzie Wemyss), Paul Gorman (Josiah and Kezzie Beardsley), and Blood of My Blood actor Jamie Roy.

Roy is slated to portray Jamie’s father, Brian Fraser, in the forthcoming Outlander prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The official trailer for the show, set to premiere on August 8, was unveiled earlier this week.

The actor who plays Roger MacKenzie looked dashing in his wedding attire, donning a kilt with tartan stylishly draped over one shoulder. Russell, on the other hand, was stunning in her flowing white lace bridal gown, featuring a fitted bodice and an expansive train, topped off with an elegant veil.

For the evening celebrations, she switched into a chic satin halter-neck dress paired with pointed white heels decorated with intricate lace details. While many cast members were present at the celebration, it appears that Richard’s on-screen wife, Brianna MacKenzie, played by Sophie Skelton, was not in attendance – though she may have simply been absent from the group photos.

Her absence would be completely understandable, considering her current commitment to filming the sequel to I Can Only Imagine alongside This Is Us star Milo Ventimiglia and other celebrities.

An Outlander superfan, posting under the Instagram handle @outlanderobsessed, thrilled followers by sharing delightful photos and videos from Richard and Sammie’s special day.

The post announced: “Richard Rankin is officially hitched. Looks like the wedding took place at Hopetoun House, where many scenes from Outlander were filmed. Congrats to Richard and Sammi [sic].”

Among the collection of photos was a magical image showing the blissful newlyweds enjoying a dazzling fireworks display at their wedding venue, with Richard lovingly embracing his bride. Another picture featured fellow Outlander star Heughan, dressed in traditional Highland attire, striking a pose in a stunning emerald tartan kilt, complemented by a charcoal three-piece vest and jacket, complete with golden yellow socks and a matching bow tie.

The 45-year-old actor and Sassenach Spirits founder was photographed holding a glass of whisky. The post also featured video clips of the cast joyfully dancing in celebration.

Fans immediately swarmed the comments section, with one exclaiming: “Well, they all kept that quiet! Huge congratulations to Richard and Sammi. Great to see so many of the OL family celebrating together [sic].”

Another raved: “How absolutely wonderful! ! How lucky to be married to that hunky guy.” A third fan observed: “I swear, Sam Heughan cannot take a bad photo. He always looks so charming and handsome.”

Skelton’s absence, who plays Brianna, sparked curiosity among fans, with one asking: “Was the actress who plays Brianna there? Can’t see her.”

Rankin’s wedding comes on the heels of the BBC’s announcement of his return as the lead detective in his celebrated crime series Rebus. Rebus marks Rankin’s first major role outside of Outlander, with the BBC disclosing: “Series two will explore the links between violent criminals involved in the drug trade in Edinburgh and the professional bourgeois world of law and finance, where police sometimes fear to tread.”

Fans of Outlander are on the edge of their seats for the eighth and final series, expected to drop in late 2025 or early 2026, although no official release date has been set. While waiting, it’s reassuring to see that the cast, having completed filming, remains close as they look forward to the Outlander conclusion.

The Outlander prequel series, Blood of My Blood, is generating buzz with daily updates for fans. In a recent update, it was confirmed that Claire’s parents Henry Beauchamp (played by Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (portrayed by Hermione Corfield) will be time-traveling and encountering Jamie’s parents Brian and Ellen MacKenzie (played by Harriet Slater).

Additionally, Blood of My Blood has been greenlit for a second season ahead of schedule, defying initial expectations of being a one-off drama, with production already underway.
